How this calculator works
Volume formulas use consistent length units and return their cube. Cylinders, cones and spheres use the radius rather than diameter. A rectangular prism needs three perpendicular dimensions. The estimates apply to ideal solid shapes; wall thickness, internal cavities and irregular geometry require separate adjustments.
Formula
cube = a³; prism = abh; cylinder = πa²h; sphere = 4πa³/3; cone = πa²h/3
Assumptions & limitations
Use consistent length units; output is cubic units.
Worked example
A cube with side 3 has volume 27 cubic units.
For a flat base or surface, the Area Calculator returns square units rather than cubic units.
Our approach to calculations ↗Common questions
Should I enter radius or diameter for curved solids?
Use radius for cylinders, spheres and cones. Convert a diameter by dividing by two.
Does this calculate container capacity?
Only when dimensions describe the usable internal shape. Wall thickness and irregular shapes need separate adjustments.
Why is cone volume one third of cylinder volume?
For the same radius and height, the cone formula is πr²h/3 whereas the cylinder formula is πr²h.
