BEHIND THE NUMBERS

How this calculator works

Mouse CPI is the number of reported movement counts per inch; DPI is the common gaming label for that setting. If the game uses a linear sensitivity multiplier, preserving old DPI multiplied by old sensitivity preserves the same mathematical effective DPI after the change. This is a settings conversion, not a claim about precision, latency, aiming skill or equivalence between different games.

Formula

New sensitivity = old DPI × old sensitivity ÷ new DPI. Effective DPI = mouse DPI × in-game sensitivity.

Assumptions & limitations

Use the same game, sensitivity scale, input mode and acceleration settings. Zoom multipliers and non-linear sensitivity controls are not converted. Screen PPI is unrelated to this calculation.

Worked example

800 DPI at sensitivity 1.5 gives 1,200 eDPI. At 1,600 DPI, sensitivity 1,200 ÷ 1,600 = 0.75 preserves the same product.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Can I convert sensitivity between different games?

Not with a generic DPI ratio. Games may use different rotation-per-count scales and zoom behaviour.

Will doubling DPI improve performance?

This tool makes no performance prediction. It only calculates the inverse sensitivity adjustment needed to preserve the product.

What happens when sensitivity is zero?

The product is zero and the matched sensitivity is zero. This represents no response under a linear multiplier.
