How this calculator works
Plan 2 annual repayments are 9% of repayment-relevant income above £29,385 in 2026/27. The lending organisation determines the plan: Student Finance England courses beginning from September 2012 through July 2023 generally use Plan 2, and eligible Student Finance Wales borrowing from September 2012 also uses Plan 2. This is independent of your current Income Tax region. The lender selector explicitly distinguishes England from Wales for future maintenance.
Formula and rules
Annual Plan 2 deduction = max(0, repayment-relevant salary − £29,385) × 9%. Optional postgraduate deduction = max(0, salary − £21,000) × 6%.

Common questions
Who is on Plan 2?
Check the lending organisation and course start date using the GOV.UK plan guide. Current residence alone does not establish your plan.
Can postgraduate repayments apply as well?
Yes. A separate 6% above the postgraduate threshold can apply alongside the undergraduate plan.
Why can my monthly payslip differ?
Actual payroll uses period thresholds and rounding. Variable monthly earnings can differ from dividing an annual estimate by twelve.
Does this use 2027/28 assumptions?
No. Only reviewed 2026/27 rules are offered. A future England threshold does not establish the Wales threshold.
