BEHIND THE NUMBERS

How this calculator works

Statutory redundancy pay weights each completed service year by the age during that year, with only the last twenty years counted. This tool makes the age-year assumption visible: start from the age at the beginning of the latest full service year and step back one year for each older completed year. The relevant average weekly pay is capped. Less than two completed years yields no award in this model, without deciding other entitlement exceptions.

Formula and rules

Sum 0.5 weeks for service-year ages under 22, 1 week for ages 22–40 and 1.5 weeks for ages 41+. Multiply by min(established weekly pay, £751), with at most 20 counted years and at least 2 years required.

Assumptions and limitations

Great Britain statutory scheme for redundancies on/after 6 April 2026, no Northern Ireland scheme or enhanced contract award. Whole service years and ages supplied; no birthday/date interpolation, continuity dispute, excluded worker status, notice pay or settlement taxation. Verify the relevant average pay over the statutory reference period.

Worked example

Ten completed years with age 45 at the start of the final full year cover ages 45 down to 36. Five years receive 1.5 weeks and five receive 1 week: 12.5 weeks × the £751 cap = £9,387.50.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Should I enter my age today?

Enter age at the start of your most recent completed service year. If your dates straddle an age threshold, verify completed-year allocation before using this whole-year model.

Is this a total termination payment?

No. Notice pay, unused holiday, enhanced contractual redundancy and other settlement amounts are outside this statutory award.

Does it apply in Northern Ireland?

No. This scope uses Great Britain rules and cap. Northern Ireland has its own official redundancy scheme and limits.
