How this calculator works
Council Tax bands use statutory proportions relative to Band D: England has bands A–H and Wales A–I. Enter the Band D amount for your own billing area, including the charges you want compared. The calculator applies the legal ratio to show a baseline for each band. Valuation ranges refer to historic property values rather than today’s sale price. The VOA assigns the band; the calculator does not assess it.
Formula and rules
Annual amount for band = entered Band D amount × statutory band proportion / 9. Illustrative instalment = annual amount / 10 or / 12.

Common questions
Does this determine my property’s band?
No. The VOA assigns valuation bands. Use the official checker to find your existing band.
Why not use today’s property price?

Does it include a single-person discount?
No. It shows baseline band proportions. Apply only the discounts or premiums confirmed for your bill.
Can I use a Scottish council amount?
No. Scotland has different proportions and is outside this calculator’s supported scope.
