BEHIND THE NUMBERS

How this calculator works

Texas has no personal state income tax, so this estimate separates federal income tax from Social Security and Medicare without adding a Texas wage tax. It is an annual-planning allocation: a steady gross paycheck is annualised, eligible entered benefits and traditional retirement deferrals are applied, then the federal calculation is divided across pay periods. Texas unemployment contributions are an employer responsibility and are not added as an employee deduction. A pay rise can cross a federal bracket even when the state income-tax line stays zero.

Formula and rules

Annual gross = period gross × pay periods. Federal taxable income = max(0, gross − Section 125 benefits − traditional deferrals − standard deduction). Net pay allocation = (gross − deductions − federal tax − state tax − payroll withholding) / pay periods.

Assumptions and limitations

One regular job, full-year pay, under 65, not blind or claimable as a dependent, no spouse earnings, credits, itemised deductions, local taxes or other income. Regular 401(k) deferrals only, without catch-up. Federal and state rows are annual liability allocations; FICA uses one-employer withholding rules. Unsupported states produce no estimate. PA/MI/NC state bases must be independently established; no automatic deduction/exemption, local-tax or reciprocity calculation is inferred. State is fixed to Texas. No state income tax is deducted. Residence, work in another state and local employment rules can require a separate assessment.

Worked example

With $2,500 gross every two weeks, Single filing status and no pre-tax deductions, annual gross is $65,000. The 2026 annual-tax model allocates $216.15 federal tax and $191.25 FICA to each paycheck, leaving approximately $2,092.60. Texas state personal income tax is zero.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Is there a Texas personal income tax deduction?

No. This page fixes state personal income tax at zero, while keeping the supported federal and employee payroll taxes.

Are Texas unemployment contributions deducted?

They are an employer responsibility in the scope described by the Texas Workforce Commission, not a deduction in this employee estimate.

Can I compare weekly and biweekly pay?

Yes. Enter the gross amount for the frequency selected. The annual gross changes if you keep the same amount and switch frequency.

Does a state-free paycheck mean tax-free pay?

No. Federal income tax and employee FICA can still apply, with other deductions depending on employment circumstances.
