Estimated state income tax
Full-year individual state taxable-income input, no credits, local tax, reciprocity or multi-state allocation. Exemptions must already be reflected in the entered base. Selecting an unsupported state blocks the calculation instead of treating it as a zero-tax state.
For informational purposes only. This estimate is not financial advice, a tax return, a payroll calculation or a lender decision. See the supported circumstances and exclusions below.
How this calculator works
State taxable income is not automatically the same as federal taxable income. Supply the amount after state-specific additions, subtractions and exemptions. Illinois applies its 4.95% rate to this entered base. Texas and Florida do not impose personal income tax. The tool does not infer residency, apportion wages earned across states or calculate city taxes. The Paycheck page offers a narrower basic wage-only Illinois exemption model when you start with gross pay.
Formula and rules
Illinois estimate = entered state taxable income × 4.95%. Texas and Florida personal-income-tax estimate = 0 under the stated scope.

Common questions
Why are only three states available?
The launch supports a small, reviewed scope. More states need their own maintained rules, tests and residency assumptions before they can be added.
Can I use federal taxable income for Illinois?
Only if you have established that it equals your Illinois taxable base. The calculation does not perform state additions or subtractions.
Does a zero result mean I owe no taxes?
No. It concerns personal state income tax only. Federal income tax, payroll taxes, sales tax and other obligations can still apply.
