Sales tax
One uniformly taxable price at the entered combined rate. No address lookup, exemptions, discounts, shipping classification, vehicle-specific taxes or invoice-line rounding policy. The Texas preset is a state component plus your entered local rate, not a statewide combined rate.

How this calculator works
Sales tax depends on jurisdiction and the taxability of the item or service. This tool does not identify either from your location. Enter the combined rate applicable to the transaction, or use the reviewed Texas state component and add a local rate you have verified. Extracting included tax divides the gross price by one plus the rate; subtracting the rate directly from the gross price would produce the wrong net amount.
Formula and rules
Tax added = net price × rate / 100. Tax-included net price = gross price / (1 + rate / 100). Included tax = gross − net.

A taxable $100 net purchase at an entered combined rate of 8.25% produces $8.25 sales tax and $108.25 total. Starting from $108.25 with Tax included recovers the same $100 net price.

Common questions
Does the Texas preset include my city tax?
No. It supplies the 6.25% state component only. Enter a verified local rate, within the supported 0–2% Texas illustration.
Does this know which purchases are taxable?
No. Determine taxability and jurisdiction from the state authority or seller. The tool applies the rate you select to the entire amount.
Why is included tax not simply gross price times the rate?
The gross amount contains both net price and tax. Divide by 1 plus the rate to recover the taxable net base first.
