Video File Size Calculator
Estimate video storage from duration and combined video and audio bitrate. Resolution and frame rate provide context; bitrate determines the size.
Estimated video size
Bitrate determines size. Resolution and FPS are contextual; codec and container overhead are excluded.

How this calculator works
Bitrate is the direct link between video duration and file size. Resolution and frame rate influence the bitrate you might choose, but they do not uniquely determine size. Use the total average video bitrate and add audio bitrate. Variable-bitrate footage may finish above or below the estimate.
Formula
GB = (video Mbps + audio kbps / 1,000) × seconds / 8,000
Assumptions & limitations
Bitrate determines size. Resolution and FPS are contextual; codec and container overhead are excluded.

Worked example
10 minutes at 10 Mbps plus 192 kbps audio is 0.7644 GB.

Our approach to calculations ↗Common questions
Do resolution and FPS determine file size?
Not by themselves. Entered video and audio bitrate determine the estimate; resolution and frame rate provide recording context.
Does variable bitrate change the result?
Yes. Use average bitrate where possible. Complex scenes may increase the actual average over an encoder’s target.
Is audio included?
Yes, the entered audio kbps is added to video bitrate. Container metadata and other overhead are excluded.
